PARADE at the Fairport Harbor Mardi Gras

PARADE GUIDELINES

2004 FAIRPORT HARBOR MARDI GRAS PARADE GUIDELINES

The parade is scheduled for Wednesday, June 30th, 2004 at 7:00pm. The theme will be "The Fairport Harbor Mardi Gras Salutes the Armed Forces". Your entry does not have to comply with this theme, but we encourage entries to carry out the theme in some way if it is possible.

There is no entry fee to be in the parade.

The staging area for the parade is the property off of Fairport Nursery Road, near the intersection of East and Sixth Streets. Watch for the signs! All participants are urged to be in Fairport by 5:00 pm or earlier or run the risk of being held up in traffic coming to view the parade. If you are in a group that normally meets at the parade grounds, you are urged to car pool. Parking is very limited. There will be no vehicle entrance to the staging area from Third Street. East Street will be closed to vehicle traffic from Sixth Street to Third Street.

When you arrive at the staging area, please check in with one of the parade committee members who will direct you to your line-up position.

Once you are put in position, please stay in that position as the judge's sheets are made up in advance. If a group gets out of the position they are assigned, they may miss getting judged properly. Please do not argue with committee members as to your placement in the line-up. We try to rotate participants around each year so that everyone gets an opportunity to be in one of the beginning groups. All late entrants are placed at the end of Unit 5, so send in your entry as soon as possible.

Once the parade begins, please keep moving with the flow. Do not leave a large gap between you and the group in front of you.

It is not permissible to throw candy, gum, etc from a parade vehicle or float. If participants desire to distribute candy or other items, there are to be people walking next to the curb to HAND OUT candy or other items directly to the crowd. This is demanded to lessen the chance of tragedy.
FOR THE SAFETY OF SMALL CHILDREN WHO RUN INTO THE STREETS FOR CANDY, OR OTHER ITEMS, THIS RULE MUST BE OBSERVED! ANY PERSON OR PERSONS SEEN THROWING CANDY FROM A VEHICLE OR FLOAT WILL BE REMOVED FORM THE PARADE, WITH A POSSIBILITY OF NOT BEING INVITED TO FUTURE PARADES.

Political advertising is permitted!

No offensive material is allowed!

Race cars and specialty vehicles are not permitted to rev engines, do burn outs or pop wheelies. Anyone in violation will be removed from parade immediately.

Judging is done at the Village Hall at Eagle Street and Third Street. Performance groups are allotted one minute in front of the judges. Please adhere to this rule. This helps keep the parade flowing and allows us to finish judging and post the results at a reasonable hour.

Winners will be posted at the Grand Prize Tent on the midway. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in judged categories. All prizes will be mailed to person indicated on the Parade Entry Form. Please be sure to fill out the address completely.
